I was delighted to welcome the Home Secretary to Halifax to thank our local police officers this Christmas for their hard work keeping us all safe.
Their dedication and tireless work protects our local businesses and communities during such a busy period for our town centre.
This visit also followed the fantastic news that the government is investing an extra billion pounds in neighbourhood policing, which is a rise of 6.1% in West Yorkshire.
Under the last Government, neighbourhood policing was cut to the bone and as a result crime and anti-social behaviour became out-of-control.
I am proud that this Labour Government is giving police the resources they need to bring down crime in our communities and ensure everyone across Halifax feels safe.
